Products
- The CogniFlow® droplet biotechnology platform
The aim of the platform is to lower the entry barrier to droplet biotechnology by providing affordable instrumentation tailored to your biotechnology workflow.
- Why perform biotech in droplets? Because it’s significantly faster, and in some use-cases also cheaper than plate/tube assays.
- How do we do it? We encapsulate your sample (e.g. cells, enyzmes, DNA) and reagents into water droplets in an oil stream, creating physically discrete compartments that essentially each act like separate microreactors. We do this at a rate of over 1000/second, in nanoliter to picoliter volumes, which makes these reactions very fast and efficient.
- What’s it good for? For workflows where identical or highly similar samples need to be processed continuously, esp. where a selection process is also involved, droplets enable otherwise unprecedented scalability. The nanoelectronics assembly process developed in the 3D-BRICKS project, is an excellent fit for the principle.
CogniFlow(R)
CogniFlow(R) is a compact droplet microfluidic automation platform for biotechnology uses. It saves on valuable lab space, and saves on valuable workhours by automating your biotechnology processes.
- What’s unique about CogniFlow®? Our platform is modular, compact and highly energy efficient. This means we can configure it to fit your workflow and also give you a more competitive price than off-the-shelf platforms allow. For instance, if you need additional pumps, not a problem. If you need different wavelengths for the sensor, not a problem either

- Electronics design: Printed circuit board design & layouting for specialized applications, e.g. bioanalytics, IVD instrumentation [1], [2].
- Thermal analysis: Simulated and experimental thermal analysis in medical electrical devices, esp. Point-of-Care, Lab-on-a-Chip devices. For user safety assessment, thermal optimization [1], [2].
- Microfluidics-related consulting: Design of 3D printed infrastructure for microfluidics. We can also advise on microfluidic chip design and fabrication. See also: Open-source, [1]
- Design and execution of (droplet) microfluidic biotechnological assays: We can assist with designing and implementing existing biotechnological workflows in microfluidics, particularly in droplet microfluidics [1], [2].
- Analysis of (droplet) microfluidic experimental images and data: Microscopy image analysis of experimental images and data, particularly in droplets, using our self-developed image analysis pipelines [1], [2], [3].
